Legno d’epoca was established in the sixties of last century by Tarcisio Scandiuzzi, under the name of Bottega del Soffitto, to provide custom-made furnishings distinguished by the use of old wood. Over the years the firm has constantly produced and installed prestigious furnishings in Montebelluna, Cortina, Cadore, Val d’Aosta, Saint Moritz, Upper Savoy, Alto Adige and Bavaria. On an occasional basis also in New York, Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Today Sebastiano Scandiuzzi is at the helm of Legno d’Epoca and continues to concentrate on offering complete furnishings. The exclusive aspect of this activity lies in the use of recovered and dated wood, in particular for ceilings supported by old beams, wainscoting and all wood panelled rooms or chambers known as stube.

WOOD THAT TAKES ON A NEW LEASE OF LIFE

Tarcisio Scandiuzzi Collection

Soffittatura piemontese del primo '600.

Being an assiduous visitor to places known for their tradition of working with wood enabled Scandiuzzi to discover truly original wooden treasures that had often been neglected if not indeed abandoned. The ongoing recovery work that started in those years has resulted in the creation of a true Museum full of wooden rarities. Many settings are a reconstruction of the original layout, while others are disassembled, yet they all have that fascination conveyed by historical furnishings and wood that has seen life. The oldest exhibit in the museum is a complete beam ceiling dating back to 804: the time of Charlemagne just to make things clear.
